Care instructions

ecocube contains coconut fiber granulate, clay granulate, compostable planting cup and plant seed packet.

  • Remove the paper sleeve from the ecocube and pull back sticker. Open the seed packet and carefully remove any stringy orange tufts attached to them with a clean knife.
  • Put seeds in a glass with luke warm water for 48 hours.
  • After 48 hours remove seeds from water and plant the seeds 1-2 cm (1/2 to 1 inch) deep and a few centimetres/several inches apart. Carefully pour about 30 ml of water on the planted seeds.
  • Keep the ecocube in a bright, warm place and water moderately until plants are germinating (approx. 20 ml every 3 days). Make sure that the granulate doesn't dry up – avoid waterlogging!
  • Bird-of-paradise flower seeds are slow to germinate, taking up to 8 weeks to germinate. Continue to water moderately.
  • As soon as the plant outgrows the ecocube (after about 12 months), repot your plant by simply placing the entire ecocube in a flower pot with some soil. The ecocube will slowly decompose and turn into a valuable fertilizer for the plant. Alternatively, it is also possible to just repot your plant with its compostable planting cup. You can also use your empty cube as a pen holder!
  • It will take 4-6 years for the plant to start blooming.
